The warm sounds of Post-Romantic Vienna fill the room with indulgence, reverence, and passion with MBE's take on Strauss, Bruckner, and Mahler. Situated at the turn of the twentieth century, the three composers wrote music to grapple with heavy themes and aging symphonic style, from Bruckner's exuberant hunting Scherzo to Mahler's eerie Now the Sun Wants to Rise as Brightly. Kicking off with spirited fanfares and hymns from Richard Strauss, sacred and secular selections from Bruckner prepare for funeral march, resurrection, and benediction from Mahler in excerpts from his symphonies and songs.
